The Significance of Full Spectrum COB for Healthy Lighting

The human pursuit never stops, and the demand for health is reflected in all aspects. Just as eating isn't just about hunger, and our need for light not only about lighting but also require healthy lighting environment, and this is also a new trend of the future.

When it comes to health lighting, the importance of the full spectrum cannot be overemphasized. Indeed, full spectrum technology represents healthy lighting. As for the reason why, we equal full-spectrum leads to healthy lighting, it’s comes down to our definition of health.

As the saying goes, natural is healthy. This concept is often cited by the diet and health group, it has a certain correctness, and also in line with the ancient Chinese philosophy, but also withstood the test of modern science.

The same goes for LED lighting, key value concept of Evercore is Natural Light, True Color, we are also in the process of questioning ourselves what is good light and how to define good light.

We started to focus on full spectrum technology in 2014, and now we have found a right direction: comparing industrial light with humanistic light; Natural light is better than artificial light.

Table-1 Evercore Full Spectrum VS Sunlight Spectrum VS Ordinary LED

For thousands of years, our ancestors lived a life of "work from dawn to dusk". It is only in the last 200 years that industrial artificial light has entered our life.

The sun still has profound effects on the human body. Our visual senses, circadian rhythms, and mental mood are better when exposed to light that is more likely to the sun, that’s why when it comes to health lighting, full spectrum is a very significant point.

Please allow us to talk about what full spectrum means for healthy lighting:

First of all, there are three obvious differences between full-spectrum COB and ordinary LED in the spectrum.

The first is that the blue light of ordinary LED is too high, far above the solar spectrum. We know that short-wavelength blue light can reach the macular area under human eye and definitely causing damage. Long-term exposure to ordinary LED lighting with high blue light can affect the human eye and even lead to pathological changes. In addition, our body's secretion of melatonin has a profound impact on our sleep. The more melatonin we produce, the sleepier we feel. If too much exposure to blue light before bed, it will inhibit the secretion of melatonin, cause insomnia, affecting sleep quality of human being.

Secondly, there is a "trough" in the spectrum of ordinary LED near 480nm between blue and green light, with poor spectral continuity.

This results in the deficiency of ordinary LED in the rendering of this part of color. Under such light environment for a long time, our visual perception will generate inertia, which will affect our judgment of color.

The full-spectrum COB cuts down the blue light in the spectrum and makes up for the missing light component in the 480nm band as much as possible. The spectrum is smoother and more continuous, closer to the solar spectrum, healthier and more consistent with people's cognitive habits of color.

It should be added that the full spectrum of LED should be the full spectrum of visible light, excluding the part of infrared and ultraviolet. Therefore, full spectrum technology does not mean to completely restore the sun's rays. As part of the infrared and ultraviolet rays are harmful to human body, we also need to make a choice according to the reality when carrying out technology research, development and product design.

Second, full spectrum COB is high CRI COB with, high saturation and high color fidelity, which can present real colors. For example, the full spectral COB of Evercore, Ra > 98, Rf > 95 and Rg 102, which is very close to natural sun- light and approximates the real color of the irradiated object.
